Have you been hiking? I've been getting out at least once a day with Brink the dog. I'd like to run with him, but I can't figure out how to get him to slow down. Consistently that is. He is so excited to run!

Not much in Colorado
That is good to hear good job. So things here are going good. Paige and I started hiking this weekend, we plan to go at least one day on our 4 days off. There are lots of places close by that we can go. We will be taking the girls with us some times they will enjoy it. The girls are doing good, we had parent teacher conferences a couple weeks ago and both their teachers said that they are doing wonderful and they love having them in the class. I will be gone for 30 days for the Army I think in June at Ft. Sill OK but not sure yet. Paige is going to Hawaii with her sister for two weeks to be with their family.
I am going to a firearms instructor school in April for a week. The weather here has been nice for the most part but I wish that it would snow or rain so it wasn't so dry there has been allot of grass fires already. I am still liking my job but ready to get to the streets where I feel I can do more. well that's all I have for now take care everyone Talk to you later.

Life in Lincoln
We're doing well here in Lincoln. It is 50 degrees here already, and it is just lovely.
Cecilia's parent teacher conference was held on Monday. On Cecilia's team, each student leads their conference, and their teachers stop by to visit. Cecilia's conference went well, though some of her grades have slipped a bit. None of us want the slip to continue, so she has set goals to achieve better grades. She can get by with little effort, but the lack of effort catches up! Cecilia is just finishing up her basketball season. She has learned a lot and has even started to shoot the ball when she gets it! She'd like to play more basketball.
We don't have Tristan's conference until next week. I think he is doing well in school. We made the decision to move him to another school next year, one that is closer to our house. Somedays he is pretty bummed about this, and somedays he seems fine with it. Hockey is winding down for the year.
Our regional competition for Destination Imagination is just around the corner. Cecilia and Tristan are on separate teams. Mike manages Cecilia's team and I co-manage Tristan's team with another parent. This tends to be a very frustrating time for team managers because it is only now that the teams seem to kick it in to gear and they start to make good progress. It's frustrating because they could do so much more, if only they'd get it together sooner! Cecilia's team has been meeting 2X per week at our house, and this has given me a chance to get to know the team a bit better. Tristan's team meets 2X per week at school.
We continue to enjoy Brink the dog. We have decided that he is truly a social animal. As you can imagine, during DI team practices here, he can be a distraction. So we have tried various things. Last Sunday we put him in his kennel in the basement. He just howled and barked, not normal behavior for him at all. On Sunday, Tristan and I worked downstairs while Cecilia and her team were upstairs. I thought that Brink would be happy downstairs with us. It nearly killed him to hear all of the kids upstairs. Finally, I put him upstairs in the kennel where he could see everyone and he was happy. He definitely wants to be in the middle of it all.
Weirdly, I still struggle with ways to get things done at home. I don't necessarily feel like I have more time and I know that I don't get everything done! It is definitely easier to feel motivated on a nice sunny day like today.
I hope that you are all well.
Post something!
Mom, we need to set you up with an email address. One that is a gmail account. Then I need to invite you to blog again.

Stupka Weekend
What kinds of activities do you want to do during our weekend?
I was thinking that we could do something for our deployed family members, like putting together care packages, shooting video of the weekend to make a short movie etc...
Anyone have any ideas for activities?
What about items for care packages?
When does everyone plan to arrive?

Cecilia's good news
Cecilia was recently awarded an Excellence Referral at Irving. She
was nominated by her math teacher, and in that nomination, he wrote:
"Cecilia is an excellent role model. She works very hard in class.
She is always showing positive leadership in the classroom."
Cecilia's name will be added to a brick display in Irving's main hall.
We are very proud.

Hey!
Thanks for signing up to the blog! Feel free to post whatever you'd like, new posts, comments, photos of your kids, etc.
Tristan is still a bit draggy, but he went to school today. Still not playing hockey though.

Tristan has mono
We found out last night that Tristan has mono. He woke up the Sunday after Christmas with a sore throat. The sore throat has never gone away. Last night, through a blood test, the dr determined that Tristan has mono. Thankfully, it seems to be a mild case. He's home from school today, but I'm hopeful that he begins to feel better soon.
I bet you're wondering why I invited each of you here
After the holidays, the Burda side of our family began a weight-loss competition. Mike created a blog to enable us to keep track of our progress. Initially thinking that this blog would be only about our weight-loss triumphs, the blog has started to function as a way for all of us to keep in contact, and to keep up on our daily lives.
I began to wonder if a Stupka family blog couldn't help us all keep in touch more easily, especially as we are far flung geographically.
I'm looking forward to your posts.
Love,
Stacy
